'62 Center for Theatre and Dance

'62 Center for Theatre & DanceThe ’62 Center for Theatre and Dance provides teaching, rehearsal, performance, and technical spaces for the Williams College department of Theatre, Department of Dance, Williams student performing ensembles of all types, lectures and panel discussions, intercollegiate festivals, and nationally renowned visiting artists performing and working in collaborative residencies with our students. The Center is named in honor of the Williams College Class of 1962, whose members envisioned the state-of-the-art venue for performing arts and led the campaign to build the center. The ’62 Center for Theatre and Dance features three distinct performance venues of varying styles and sizes, designed to meet the college’s unique performance and programming.

MainStage (MST)

This courtyard-style procenium theatre is detailed in blonde wood with two wraparound balconies. With up to 550 seats and a broad, deep stage, it can handle the rigorous technical requirements of major touring artists and can equally provide a perfect setting for our Dance Department ensembles’ major concerts.

CenterStage (CST)

This flexible black box has a cavernous, industrial feel and a strong point of view. Its features include reconfigurable seating, movable balconies, an elevator in the stage door, and giant sliding doors that open onto the lobby. The flexibility of arrangement that this space offers makes it a perfect venue for many Theatre Department productions and experimental dance works.

Adams Memorial Theater (AMT)

This proscenium theatre, build in 1940, has been renovated and converted in a more intimate house with up to 250 seats and an adjustable stage that can project into the audience. Both the Theatre and Dance Departments continue their decades-long relationship with this historic stage, which is also a favorite venue for many of our student performing groups.

The ’62 Center for Theatre and Dance was designed by William Rawn Associates.
