African Dance and Percussion Class

Sandra Burton, Lipp Family Director of Dance and Senior Lecturer in Dance, and Tendai Muparutsa, Artist in Residence in African Music Performance, Lecturer in Music, Director of Zambezi, Co-Director of Kusika, teach the course African Dance and Percussion at Williams. The course investigates selected music and dance from the African continent by advancing dance and music skills, deepening understanding of history and context of the material and addressing questions including the impact of religion, colonialism, travel, immigration, media tradition and the continued emergence of new forms.
